Following a Columnist: Day 1 Gail Collins, a liberal / progressive American journalist and a op-ed columnist as well as an author most recognized for her work with the New York Times, relays her perspective and conjectures on current American politics and culture. In many instances she discloses her arguments in extended sentences with authentic embedded evidence that supports her claim in addition to a contemplative tone creating an intriguing and controversial post that not only unveils our ignorance to on-growing issues, but exposes the existing unjust affairs continuing to be exploited / manipulated; that in turn are concealed from the public .
Ms.Collins composes her arguments from her approach, being of a democratic perspective, centering her interest on current politicians from Hilary Clinton to the Trump Presidency. Mercilessly she addresses the concerns that arise from the topics of controversies, disputes and contentions Mr.Trump has created. The prime example Ms.Collins demonstrates is in her recent post, "Guns- When Trump can't even tweet", that expresses the unforgiving hypocrisy and irresponsible disregard Mr.Trump has had with the on-growing issue of Gun Control. We have heard his voice in his government immigration rants, terrorism, and firmer laws on the US boarder security- yet we haven't heard a "presidential peep" on school shootings. Unsurprisingly conveying to the evident and unsettling conclusion ,which Ms.Collins implies, of the negative implication Mr. Trump has had in his developing presidency portraying his insensitivity to important issues and "If they keep at it, someday we’ll get a new president who doesn’t believe the only answer to mass shootings in public schools is an occasional tweet about thoughts and prayers." The writing style Ms.Collins utilizes is sarcastic/aggressive although decorously asserting her argument, and although many are petrified when whispering about politics Ms.Collins fearlessly shouts her opinion with confidence; which to me is refreshing and unique. A fitting representation of her writing style is her post- "So it's One, Two, Three Strikes You're Out…", which states, "Trump has a way of creating three-step crises:" ,explicates Ms.Collins sarcastically, "He begins with an unnerving decision, then makes it clear he’ll be doing nothing to minimize the potential damage. Then comes Step 3, which involves something so bizarre that it’s almost scary...O.K., often really scary." Describing the issue in-ironically- a humorous tone that makes the reader connected, interested and educated on the subject that is being discussed regardless of race, gender, belief or political preference. The process in which Ms.Collins starts off her assertions is distinct with presenting us the issue in a sarcastic tone, evolving to an aggressive tone when proposing her claim and concluding the post with modesty. The arguments stated by Ms.Collins's perspective/conjectures on current American politics and culture accompanied with the sarcastic, aggressive and decorously style of writing creates a masterpiece that not only enlightens the reader but enlightens our politicians as well with an indisputable contention of politics.

January, 2018 Dear Ms.Hersarling, On December 14, 2017 the repeal of the Net neutrality took place by the Federal Communications Commission, under the new command of Ajit Pai, and ultimately won by a 3:2 vote. However, this action was taking ignorantly and dangerously with only an explanation of words made by Mr.Pai’s claim,”We are helping consumers and promoting competition,”Mr.Pai also stated, “Broadband providers will have more incentive to build networks, especially to underserved areas.” Despite this appealing proposal there's no denying that his decision was deluded and greatly contradicting to the research countless websites have shown. In many instances big internet companies have violated the regulations of the Net Neutrality Law by suspicious actions and characteristics of monopoly and have tried to make higher prices for us to pay, block or remove content it finds of an opponent. If companies like AT&T, Verizon and Comcast have violated the Net Neutrality Laws by trying to monopolize their companies in the form of eliminating competition and earning all the gain of other’s production; then immagine what they are going to do when there is no law against their unfair actions to stop and punish them. I strongly feel we should revoke the Net Neutrality Repeal for the sake of us- the consumers, and you- the producer. Sincerely, Perla Vargas The way it will affect us as consumers, and even other small companies/ websites, is financially and will also cost us our independent choices of certain content. Many consumer advocates argue that with the non existent rules broadband providers as well as companies will begin selling the internet in bundles and the fast lane will be occupied by big internet/media companies, also including affluent households, sense no regulation of prohibiting paid prioritization will stop them. Aside from these effects our own freedoms will be affected for big companies like AT&T, Verizon, Google(etc) will decide to create higher prices for us to pay and will block or even remove content it finds as an opponent; meaning we won’t get the individual choice to choose what we want to.
The repeal of Net Neutrality would benefit Facebook, Google, Amazon, or any other big internet companies that have the money to pay any tolls/fees put in place by the internet providers meaning they would become more powerful sense their smaller rivals will likely have less ability to afford such fees. Another benefit would be they can control how we interact with others, what content of entertainment we watch, what platform we receive news, and what stores to shop. Last but not least, they will be able to block, slowing, or giving preferred treatment to particular sites and services they choose without our consent. The Democratic Party are supporters of Net Neutrality that are fighting and hoping to revoke the repeal Net Neutrality by the FCC to help the consumers, us, to get our fair and open internet access equally.Taking into perspective that the repeal of Net Neutrality already took place; we can still revoke the repeal by signing petitions and voting for congress to overrule the repeal of Net neutrality as well as writing a letter to your state or federal representative to ultimately hope to save the internet to have free and open net. Save Net Neutrality-(https://www.change.org/p/save-net-neutrality-netneutrality). Net Neutrality was ruled in favor by the Federal Communications Commission on February 26,2015; under the title II of the communication act of 1934 and section 706 of the telecommunications act of 1996. This requires internet providers(ISPs) to treat all websites/ competitor, large or small, equally and gives consumers a free and accessible internet without any interference from internet providers.in other words think of net neutrality as an elevator with 2 CEOs, 2 employes and 1 janitor; they are all ultimately going at the same speed without any of them being first or greater than the other. But taking net neutrality away the 2 CEOs will ride the elevator, the 2 employees will take the escalators and the janitor will take the stairs; which is unfair and unequal.
However recently the FCC , under the new republican chairman Ajit Pai, votes 3:2 for the repeal of Net Neutrality Law with a brief explanation, “We are helping consumers and promoting competition,”Mr.Pai also stated, “Broadband providers will have more incentive to build networks, especially to underserved areas.” Nevertheless, opponents of the FCC action stated they will take the agency to court and even received threats from other opponents like the hacking group Anonymous, “ we will make these men realize what terrible mistake they made” and also added they are going to “ come after” Mr.Pai and his allies. Unsurprisingly many more protests and petitions progressively grow and expand for Net Neutrality to continue. |
